AIM Consultant Spotlight Interview:
Seth Adams
Title: Senior Consultant, Delivery Leadership
Question: What drove your desire to work in consulting?
Seth: As I progressed throughout my career working in in-house roles, I realized that as a consultant, you’re brought in as a trusted partner. The business understands that there is a problem, and they need a consultant(s) to help identify and solve that problem. I had a taste of this working throughout different companies, and I realized that I enjoyed the problem-solving and creation of solutions aspect in my previous roles. I also found that I enjoyed empowering people to develop those solutions, and I found it very rewarding. As I was making my next career move, it was easy for me to land on consulting.
Question: How would you sum up the culture at AIM?
Seth: Even though I’ve spent my entire time working with AIM in a remote role, I still feel very connected to the team and like I haven’t missed a beat. If I were to sum it into one word, I’d say collaborative. Everyone that I’ve worked with has been super welcoming, supportive, and generally awesome. Even though I’m based in Minneapolis, it’s easy to lean on some of the other locations to help me develop a creative solution. I’ve also learned that AIM believes in becoming a trusted partner with clients and puts this above everything else. Through becoming a trusted partner and providing the right solutions for the client, AIM believes this will drive further collaboration.
I’m excited that AIM is continuing to expand. We’re always looking to create new products and offers to help client’s grow, and that’s something I find interesting. I also find that my approach to consulting matches well with AIMs. We’re very focused on building trust but, in order to that build trust, sometimes we have to recommend a solution that we don’t provide. I have a lot of respect for this and knowing that I’m part of an organization that isn’t here to sell for the sake of selling is reassuring. Our focus is on putting the clients first, and that’s something that aligns well with me.
Question: What activities help you balance career and home life?
Seth: I have three kids who keep me incredibly busy. I try to get out and ski with them in the winter as much as I can. Recently, I’ve also fallen back in love with camping. It’s been a great escape from COVID and a fun way to show the kids some of my favorite Minnesota areas. I’m also a musician and enjoy playing the Bass Trombone. Pre-COVID, I was part of the Saint Cloud Symphony Orchestra and would do gigs all over the city. I’d also teach, and even though that’s taken a back seat for the last year, I’m looking forward to doing this again soon.
I’m a big gamer. If I have spare time, you can find me playing DnD (Dungeons and Dragons). It’s a very strategic game, but it’s a great way to connect with friends, meet new people and enjoy everything that is DnD.
Question: What do individuals need to do when moving from in-house technology roles to consulting?
Seth: Consulting is a fantastic way to grow your skill sets and gain invaluable experience. You consistently get introduced to different ways of doing things, new technology, and diverse environments, all of which accelerate your growth. The knowledge you gain in a short amount of time is something you can carry with you for a long time.

Senior Consultant, Delivery Leadership
“We’re always looking to create new products and offers to help clients grow, and that’s something I find interesting.” – Seth Adams
Seth took a little different path than most to consulting. Music has always been an “instrumental” part of his life, and he decided to pursue a Music Performance degree from St Cloud State University. Upon landing his first gig in a technical support role, he moved to a product role, where he quickly excelled. The organization was an avid practitioner of Agile methodology, and Seth soon learned the benefits of this, how a business operates, and so much more. This set the foundation for the rest of his career in Delivery Leadership principles.
As Seth progressed to different organizations, he found himself in a consultative type of role where he influenced the adoption of Agile delivery through his experience and past successes. He’s spent the last 6+ years helping organizations adopt an agile methodology to deliver exceptional quality.
When Seth isn’t helping companies adopt a new project management framework, you can find him chasing his kids around the ski slopes of Minnesota, continuing his musical interests, and spending time with his family.
